Searching and Applying Animal Research Literature To Improve Animal Welfare and Fulfill IACUC Requirements

Searching and Applying Animal Research Literature To Improve Animal Welfare and Fulfill IACUC Requirements

Explore databases and strategies to identify literature to inform the 3Rs of animal welfare in research–replacement, refinement and reduction. Develop and document a sample search of at least two databases and practice drafting a narrative summarizing literature on possible alternatives, supporting the species and number of animals involved, and describing pain minimization or management.

Class objectives:

  • Become familiar with animal species and research procedure search strategies in PubMed and beyond
  • Efficiently develop and document the required alternatives literature search for replacement, refinement, and reduction of pain or distress in animal research subjects.
