Narrative Medicine: A Workshop for Providers and Students

Illness most often presents itself in the form of a story. Each day clinicians are tasked to act upon the narratives of their patients. Exceptional patient care depends upon a provider’s ability to comprehend all that is contained within the stories they receive. Narrative Medicine methodology places narrative competence at the core of patient-centered medicine. Drawing from both medicine and the humanities, the interdisciplinary field of Narrative Medicine continues to enrich our understanding of communications in healthcare. Open to all members of Mount Sinai Health System community, this workshop will introduce MSHS providers and students to the practice of Narrative Medicine. Attendees will examine the personal, professional, and relational benefits of Narrative Medicine practice.
